About me
My name is Jozef Barlas, a visual artist based in Slovakia. I create 3D abstract artworks that explore the tension between form, texture, and negative space — where organic geometry merges with elemental expression.
From an early age, I was captivated by the interplay of shadow, material, and volume. Over time, this fascination evolved into a unique language: building multi-layered sculptural surfaces that respond to light, depth, and presence.
Technique & Material Philosophy
I develop and refine every technique myself through experimentation and intuitive iteration. My process involves:
Custom-formulated layering systems, combining polymers, composite hardcoats, and sculptural texturing
Building surface reliefs through additive and subtractive steps
Meticulous selection and adaptation of materials per concept — balancing strength, tactility, and visual nuance
Each artwork emerges as one-of-a-kind, where every layer, contour, and micro-variation is purposeful.
Original Works & Commissions
My primary focus is on original, three-dimensional pieces — no reproductions or prints. Each creation is born out of a carefully considered process, intended to carry its own presence and resonance.
For collectors or spaces seeking a more personalized interaction, I offer commissioned works. These are designed to align with the architecture, energy, or specific vision of the owner — yet always maintain the integrity and language of my artistic voice.
